Something I thought about:
- Diagesis vs. mimesis. We were talking about diagesis in the first year Literature and Writing course this week during a unit on short stories, and I was thinking about how in poetry school, one of our most used words was mimesis — that was the point. We also spoke a lot about decorum (rather old school and old fashioned, but there’s an ethical dimension to the idea of decorum that I still appreciate). My creative writing course is also studying short stories, so I was thinking about diagesis vs. mimesis from both critical and creative perspectives — and how to teach identification and use.
Something I did:
- Finished a draft of a diss chapter.
- Celebrated expat Thanksgiving.
