Something I thought about:

  • This was another packed week with one serious low point, but it was productive. I’d been considering a couple of ideas for this week’s class sessions, which I tried out, and I think they were helpful. We have more students this year — back to pre-pandemic numbers — and larger classes means it’s easier for people to hide and participate less (even if they’re paying attention and mentally engaged). So. I made a few adjustments to get more people to speak, and now I’m getting a better sense of students as individuals, and that helps so much in shaping the material + discussion.

Something I did:

  • Taught
  • Wrote a paper
  • Tutored academic writing
  • Played with AntConc (a corpus linguistics tool) and learned more functions
  • Went to many more appointments — three of which involved getting glasses for the child!
