Something I thought about:
- I was experiencing a bit of culture shock this week — Swiss National Day is very different from the US 4th of July. Sure, the Swiss have flags hanging up around town squares and put little flags on baked goods and stuff, but people don’t wear or decorate with them the way USians do. The most visible nationalism is usually during international soccer matches when people hang the flags of the countries they support from their balconies, and that’s less about nationalism and more about team loyalty. Anyway, it was a startling moment of recalibration.
Something I did:
- Lots of meetings and follow up
- Program management
- Went to the town 4th of July parade
- Had a few friends over for a bbq
- Watched a lot of soccer with the child
Something I read:
- Lord Peter Views the Body by Dorothy L. Sayers
- The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club by Dorothy L. Sayers
- All Rhodes Lead Here by Mariana Zapata
- Day by Michael Cunningham
- Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel (second book of a slow read — I was close to the end and read ahead!)
- More of the War and Peace slow read.
