Something I thought about:

  • The difference between writing from research and writing from direct experience — specifically the types of details that are selected and the kinds of characters and complexity that can be developed in each situation.

Something I did:

  • Friends from the US were in town! These were our first international visitors since before the pandemic. We spent a couple of days playing tourist together, which was lovely – visiting the Château de Chillon and the Roman ruins at Vidy.
  • More genetic criticism in combination with editorial correspondence.

Something I read:

  • Started Rhetoric of Empire by David Spurr
