Something I thought about:
- After a weekend in NY, the campus protests have been on my mind — especially because this is my first semester not teaching undergrads in a very long time. I approach pretty much everything from a pedagogical perspective, and I saw a post stating that you can’t simultaneously police and educate, and I agree 100%. These are students. You don’t bring riot police or the National Guard into a place of study — into a community. Have a teach-in. Foster opportunities for dialogue. It’s a lot more work than silencing and criminalizing students, but that’s what education is — work. And the work and the connections are so worth it.
Something I did:
- Attend Kweli Day 2
- Come home from NY
- Update the structure of this website — I’ve been thinking about this forever and finally just sat down and did it. The process was less complicated than I’d expected — in part because Ghost has added a few new features that I quite liked.
- A lot of catching up — my work inbox was an absolute disaster when I returned
- PMing, organization, triage
- Have dinner with an old friend I hadn’t seen in 20+ years.
- Dad some tree work done at home, which was dramatic.
Something I read:
- The Golden Enclaves by Naomi Novik
- Archangel’s Lineage by Nalini Singh
- What Cannot Be Said by C.S. Harris
- Same Bed Different Dreams by Ed Park
