Reflection:
The school year started. Students arrived. Everything else disappeared during rentrée. And now, with a weekend nor’easter, all plans are canceled, and I’m attempting to catch up on everything I paused, like volunteer commitments and reading for pleasure. It’s been a few weeks of adapting to new rhythms, and we’re getting there, but some quiet time is necessary. I need physical rest and to replenish mental and emotional wells.
Reading:
- Most of my reading time has been taken up with the books I’m currently teaching: The Wanderings of Odysseus, Uglies, A Wizard of Earthsea, and The Crucible. Three courses + an elective = 4 preps = not much time for anything else.
- I have started to listen to podcasts again after a long break. Given the state of the world, I needed some distance from current events. I’ve quit all political podcasts, but I’m picking up poetry and culture podcasts again. I liked the Vibe Check interview with Timnit Gebru. I also liked this Poetry off the Shelf conversation with Ada Limón.
