Something I thought about:

  • I’ve been thinking about various “slow” movements — slow food, slow reading — and I think we could use some slow learning, as well. We keep trying to optimize everything and make it more efficient, but people — especially children — aren’t machines. Learning isn’t linear, and friction is useful in terms of both the learning process and emotional development. How do we deal with frustration and mistakes? How do we handle setbacks? Learning is about much more than content — it’s about understanding processes and what works and what doesn’t for each learner. One size doesn’t fit all.

Something I did:

  • PT — I’m making progress!
  • Finished two tiny embroidery projects. It was nice to finally use the little craft table I set up months ago.
  • Attended some meetings.
  • Continued to read a lot.
  • Did some course planning.
  • Went to my fifth Tori Amos concert in 30 years.

Something I read:

  • Finished off the Kelley Armstrong series on audio
  • Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi
  • A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park
  • Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger
  • I read the first 50 pages or so of various books as part of course planning to see if they’d fit what I’m considering
