June 6, 2026

Something I thought about:

  • Last week, when a brazen turkey was hanging out in a neighbor’s yard, unafraid of 6 adults, a tween, a toddler, and a dog, the neighbor mentioned seeing a fox run from a neighbor’s yard to ours nearly every morning. We hadn’t seen it! In the mornings, we’re in the kitchen, which faces the backyard. I asked her what time, and she gave me an estimate — shortly after my kid leaves for school. This surprised me, but I thought perhaps she was rounding to the closest hour and that the fox makes its morning run between the elementary school and middle school bus pickups. Sure enough, we’ve started to spot this neighborhood fox regularly, and I’ve seen it every day so far in June. In Lausanne, we lived along the "fox trail" (with silver paw print trail markers) but only occasionally saw foxes over our decade there. Here we appear to live on an actual fox's path, which has been fun. This morning I saw the fox race across our yard and into a neighbor’s followed by two kits, both running full out! They tore a loop around the neighbor’s house and took off into another yard. This was also snapping turtle week, so our neighborhood has been overrun by the wild. Spring is here, at last, with insistent reminders that we live in nature.

Something I did:

  • Started to maintain a fox log. It’s fun.
  • Took a lot of photos of blooming flowers, turtles, and foxes. I need a proper camera — a cell phone is convenient but not great.
  • Had a final board meeting of the academic year. We’ll pick up again in a couple months.
  • Took daily walks. Foxes and turtles kept me motivated.
  • Read a lot.
  • Wrote a bit.
  • Attended many meetings (this was “on” week).
  • Continued to work on craft projects.
  • Completed more work on various websites.
