The New Yorker at 100 (Feb. 19 '25)

This collection arrived a few days ago, and it looks spectacular. I'm so excited to make my way through it.

I flipped open the table of contents, and M, who always likes to look at my large books, yelled, "Elizabeth Bishop!" Her name was at the top of the page. This tells you a little bit about our household.

In December, I read The World She Edited: Katharine S. White at The New Yorker by Amy Reading and enjoyed it. The book offers a history of The New Yorker through the lens of White's career, and much of it focuses on the development of the poetry section.

The magazine wouldn't have published (let alone nurtured) so many women poets if she hadn't been reading submissions for so long. I'm looking forward to seeing how their poetry section changed over the years and what – if anything – has remained from White's initial vision of the section.
