Something I thought about:
- I decided at the end of 2023 that my word for 2024 would be “slow.” This has to do with pace — the last two years were extreme between finishing and defending my dissertation, moving internationally, and then starting a part-time and then a full-time job and doing both for a quarter while unpacking and renovating the house and starting over in various American systems — but I also mean “deliberate.” Obviously a lot of work-related tasks require timeliness and speed, but I want to be more deliberate about what I’m doing and when and keeping my head in the moment instead of frantically jumping from one thing to the next. Like baking a loaf of bread instead of being a line cook at a short-staffed restaurant during the dinner rush.
Something I did:
- Finished grading.
- Submitted grades.
- Kicked off the new year with a feral art day.
- Went to French class.
- Dealt with a surprise, massive bug in one project.
- Meetings + PMing.
- Went to a Media Lab mini-reunion.
- Prepared for a snow storm.
- Read a little.
- Wrote a little.
Something I read:
- The Probability of Everything by Sarah Everett
